Gather in the Farthest Field
2026/08/16
Dear You,
Perhaps I cannot pinpoint the exact moment we met, where our worlds overlapped through shared experience, as the tapestry of Life is woven. Each moment we experience becomes a part of who we are. We cross paths, walk and talk, find ourselves dancing in circles for reasons we may not even realize until seasons pass, for lifetimes.
I sit here now thinking of You, wishing we might be together savoring the coffee freshly brewed, as it swirls in the scent of autumn air. I marvel thinking about all the paths, “mistakes”, and circles that I have danced in just this past week… Reminiscing about moments I could never have planned for, and the moments that I wish I could bottle up to keep forever alive. Like this moment writing to you when the conditions invite me to be here now; surrounded by the cacophony of song birds, whispering wind, the pitter patter of little feet, the creek rushing steadily nearby, all among the rigamarole of passing vehicles on the street.
The sunlight shapes every leaf within sight, piercing through the canopy of Maples and Evergreen as memories created this past week linger in my heart that I wish I could tell you all about. I could go on and on about all the things that did not go as planned, the surprises that ensued, the dreams I’ve explored. From the highs to the lows, and the plateaus… It is You I have carried in my heart: my Kin.
You may already know this about me, or perhaps not yet. I believe in the sacred within each of us, and while I am very human, I welcome in that divinity as much as I can. Years ago in my massage therapist's office there was a sign, painted in black and white that read: “Everything is Divine” …I don’t know about you, but at the time it made me nearly cringe. It rang true, but there are pieces of life that make me question just how it could be. How could all the “wrong” and “right” be Divine; how is it that simple to state in black and white, when so much seems divided and all I wish is for it all to be united, for all to be “right.” To lay our arms down, to join hand in hand, circle ‘round, and sing in the “Farthest Field.”
Dreams… I have many of them, this I am sure you know. Too many for me to execute, yet you’ve seen me give so many a go as I find ways to weave it all together. I can’t help it! I feel that The More Beautiful World Our Hearts Know Is Possible is “just around the riverbend.”
For as true as it is that many rivers flow at once as they find their way back to the ocean, it is true that many things are true at once, and I believe that our dreams come together when we come together, meeting each other to share pearls we have gathered so that we may integrate them in the mysterious ways that they must.
Writing these letters is an invitation for deeper conversation with those of You willing to sit with what emerges in form from the seeds within each. Beyond the intent to connect in the margins of life through this dedicated time and space I carve each week, I have no idea what will come of these letters… Perhaps they find their way like letters in a bottle sent out to sea: some lost, some found. I am curious how they will land, and where we will be, yet that is beyond me, as The World Is As We Dream It.
Right here, right NOW… I send out my thanks to all of those who have touched my heart in so many unexpected ways this week. From the Farthest Field to mountain peaks, from challenges to finding peace, from hours lost in the quiet behind screens to being witnessed in the eyes of a child spreading wings to fly as diamonds light the sky. Life unfolds and as I sit deeper in the present, I am awed at what one day can hold… in one week, one season, in One Life to Live.
Until we meet again…
I hope you dance “as if you are kissing the Earth with your feet,” as you follow the rhythm of the heartbeat.
Love,
Leigh
p.s. I find such beauty in visual storytelling, in the fractals of light captured, in texture that can be felt through two dimensions, and in composition and depth! Attribution goes to my grandmother as she passionately shared stories from her treasured, curated photo albums and the encouragement she offered to capture moments of life through a lens. I fucking wish I had captured so many moments this past week on film to share with You… It was one to remember… and I hope it was for you too!
