Dance Through the Unknown
2026/08/09
Dear You,
I wish we could walk among the trees, sit by the waters, or linger at a table for hours with our choice of brew.
I wonder how you are, and what life is like these days, wherever in the world you may be.
I surely wish I knew.
I want to know what touches your heart,
what weighs you down,
what makes you come alive,
what wakes your spirit…
These days seem to fly by with all that life asks and offers. There seems to never be enough time in a day, for our minds can carry us far beyond the distance our bodies can carry our dreams in a day. As I wish to connect with all of those who have crossed my path that come to mind from time to time, or who live in my heart as they have shaped this life I call mine… time goes by, and I’m still wishing to catch up from the last time we said “we’ve got to!”
So here I begin a practice, a weekly ritual, a letter to You. Beginning by meeting you wherever you are, from where I am. Building connection through conversation through an old fashion letter in modern times, hoping you do reply, even if it’s swift passing by through our busy lives.
I start here by starting where I find myself today, just over seven months of beginning another practice: a devoted commitment to mySelf. Before the turn of the new year I was becoming tired of spinning my gears, feeling like I was running full steam towards a vision I felt yet could not see. I was urged to choose just one thing to focus my energy on this next year, for surely I cannot do it all.
Last year I was mothering my seventeen and eleven-year-old in very different stages as head of household, caring for our two lovebugs of pups, while finalizing a divorce. I waitressed nights, while building my business with Many Rivers around the clock. I primarily offered my time as a birth and postpartum doula, while also consulting for women run small businesses, and building a portfolio as a fine arts photographer, while researching and applying for positions that might hold the promise of consistency and benefits like any responsible adult should have. – All while holding on tight to other dreams and Knowings left unmentioned here.
So what did I choose to do?
I chose not to commit to any one thing this year…
except to follow my heart.
Can’t say the person who urged me to choose one thing was impressed or compelled with my choice nor my reasoning. Yet seven months later we sit and reflect as I share my gratitude for listening to my truth and honoring to not choose any one thing, except mySelf.
These months have been filled with the unexpected, the obvious, the unknown, the rock bottom, the up top, and an incredible shift I have vivaciously embraced!
I sincerely believe in the Mystery of Life, of Big Magic, of Love, and Truth. By devoting myself this year to listening deeply, I have followed the rhythm of my own heartbeat, and the Sacred Scavenger Hunt has provided gifts in moments of time so divine to my soul that I don’t have time to share here.
Am I still all over the place, well yes, yes I am!
In borrowed words from a sister:
“I trust in right timing so implicitly- let’s keep unfolding!”
And so it is that so Many Rivers are flowing in my life, and I can’t begin to guess where they all will lead, and who else I will meet along the way. I am ready for what life is all about, singing: “show me how good it is” in celebration of all those who come before me, in honor of those to come, and in solidarity for those who share this journey with me.
I thank you for sharing this time and space, leaving your mark in this world we share and on hearts like mine. I invite you to receive my weekly letter so that when you have time you can pour a brew and sit with me from wherever you might be.
Wherever you are today… I hope life is good. I hope that you too are dancing in the unknown with a courageous heart among all the rest.
Until we see each other again…
Love,
Leigh
